IRWA takes a proactive role in the legislative processes at both the State and Federal levels. IRWA currently contracts with a lobbying firm to formally represent rural water and wastewater systems at the State Capitol. Bills that are currently being monitored can be found on this site (under either the House Bills link or the Senate Bills link) with the sponsor of the bill and a link to its status.
As an affiliate of the National Rural Water Association, IRWA and its members are well represented in Washington D.C. through the use of four full-time lobbyists and one full-time environmental engineer. In addition to the activities of these lobbyists, IRWA Board members and the Executive Director of IRWA will make several trips to the both the nation’s and state’s capitols to lobby them on behalf of their members.
